Polar Lights 1:12 Wolverine

Wolverine has definitely got to be my favourite X-men character. He's a pretty cool superhero character in general. And he's got quite the iconic look. All of this has been well represented in this Polar Lights kit.

I've only ever seen this kit advertised in one magazine. I've seen a few builds of it, but for some reason this kit seems to be quite less active.  I think that Round 2 Models possibly post their Marvel license shortly after this kit was produced. It's a shame there aren't more of these kits, I never saw this one on the shelves anywhere. But they are still available online, however their prices are slowly increasing, so if you want one start your search and grab soon.

The boxart is fantastic, quite appealing straight away. Opening the box you are greeted to mass amount of yellow. It's a Snap kit, but don't let that put you off this kit. The molding is exceptional, the details are clean and crisp.

Really cool you get a Cowl and Bare faced Wolverine. He stands onto  a fallen sentinel head, which is pretty darn big. A decal sheet is included for the black stripes, which is a really nice edition to the kit I wasn't expecting. Chrome Claws are a nice inclusion, but the chrome to me at least is too shiny. I'm going to test these on the kit later and see if the chrome would look better stripped and repainted a nice bright silver.

I'm more than thrilled with this kit. It looks like a fun distraction from my usual builds. I'm looking forward to adding more wire details to the Sentinels head. Again a shame that this kit seems to be in small quantities, it's certainly one worth having if you are a fan!

Doesn't look like Hugh Jackman at all.....

Really cool cowling,

Some parts that rattled off the sprue.

Chromed claws.

This is a BIG head

Room for adding plenty more detail.

Parts to the Sentinel head.

Well placed and descriptive instructions.

Black stripe decals are nice and thin, should work
well on the model.

A Good Haul

There are those random days, sometimes every few years, where a strange cosmic string of events collide, and the modeling Gods grace us with kit after kit. And I'm not talking about those times where you don't have the cash, or they are already prebuilt and covered on a glue mess. I mean when some strange reason, everything goes right.

Starting at my local Comic Book store, I found this Citadel Lord of the Rings Mumakil. I'm a HUGE fan of the LOTR franchise, and I built quite a few LOTR miniatures back in their heyday. I always wanted this kit, but never got around to getting one, until that day.......

Basically the owner wanted it gone! It was taking up room and no one wanted it, so he gave it to me for an amazing deal.

Eventually I purchased the Mumak Driver figure for this.

On my way home I passed through a small town, where I knew there was an antiques store. Last year they had a few model kits that I passed on. I decided since I had the time, to pop in. I never expected this.

Immediately entering the store I was greeted to a few boxed kits, one of them being this Authentic Models 1:96 Savoia Marchetti. This was recently released by Glenco Models a few years ago, and I never saw it on the market. It's a good looking kit, not the most extreme on detail, but I'm confident that it will be a fun build.
1:96th scale? Sure, why not?

I then asked the owner if they had any more. He showed me to this box, the Holy Grail! A box filled with bagged Airfix and FROG models. In practically mint condition! I picked up 2, one and A6M2b Zero ( I needed another Vintage Zero for a future Diorama) And one I've only seen for extreme high prices on the web, the Supermarine S.6b. I grabbed my treasures headed for the till and headed home, with my head in the clouds.

A few days later I told my older brother about my finds, and he really, really wanted to go and see these for himself. So I took him that Friday, and I grabbed 4 more kits.

Airfix 1:72 Starfighter, had to its Canadian. And I had never seen this kit before.

Avro Anson. Always wanted to build one, they flew a lot of these around here during WWII. Plan on turning this into a Canadian Trainer, no turret.

Boomerang, Built one as a kid. And I was never too happy with the final result. I remember the wheel struts breaking off, and one of the cannons, as soon as I saw it was grabbed it. Would really love to build this one up properly.

Gosling, (Not Pictured) I bought this one for my Dad. He had one a few years ago and it was quite damaged from moving. He was really pleased to have another to build again.

My brother went crazy, seriously! Seeing all these kits blew whats left of his mind. I thought he'd grab 4 or 5, but he had other plans.....

Hawk 1:48? U-2

Airfix 1:72
Beaufighter
Roland C-11
Auster
Airacobra

Defiant
Yak-9a
Fieseler Storch
F4U-1D Corsair

Harvard/Texan
FROG- Hawker Seafury
EE Lightning
Me 110D

Fokker Dr.1
Wildcat
Bristol Bloodhound
A4D-1 Skyhawk

Lastly IL-2 Sturmovik

Yeah, in one afternoon he filled the vast majority of his "wanted" section.

Like I said one of those very rare times when for what ever reason things just all come together......

Warhammer: Bretonnia, Grail Knight

Hello everyone, Das Wolfgarde here again. Bringing you more Warhammer and Warhammer 40000 models. This time of the Warhammer universe.

This is a Bretonnia, Grail Knight. Basically a knight of the holy grail with special powers. I bought this guy on the whim awhile back and thought he be fun to paint. Which it was, and wasn't...

The knight himself is made of white metal while the horse is made of plastic. The metal was easy to clean of any flash, and after some bending to fix the lance he was all ready to be primed and painted. Now, what made this a difficult model to do was the fact that, after the green cloak was painted and the highlights added I decided to add the silver vine work on the cloth. That was harder and took longer that I expected. But after a while i managed to find a rhythm and paint it all. After all that was done I added the grail and demi-griffon on the shields on the side of the horse, those turned out to be easier than all the vine work on the cloth. When all the painting of the model was finished, I stuck it to the top of a cookie jar lid and applied 'green-stuff' to the base to give it an earthy feel. Painted it up and added some turf and called it finished.

Despite all the difficulty building and painting this model, the paint itself and the fact that the rider didn't fin in it's saddle. I had allot of fun with this one. I have no intention on building one again for a while, but I wouldn't mind doing it.

Hope you enjoy.
