I love this movie, it's one of my all time favourite comedies. I recently watched it and laughed just as hard as the first time I saw it. Galaxy Quest of a comedic parody of the Star Trek franchise. But it's not a spoof like Spaceballs it to Star Wars. It's more of a homage to the Trek franchise while still being totally unique and to itself.
One of the things that stood out to me, is the uniqueness of their main ship the Protector. I really love the design of this thing. Nearing the end of the movie actor Justin Long is building a model kit of the Pretector, and I remember thinking "Gee I wish they had a model of this for me to build"
Justin Long Building the N.S.E.A Protector
Well Pegasus Hobbies hear me plea, and built one (Huzzah). Now I do wish it was bigger like 1:1000 scale, but having it 1:1400 scale the Protector fits with the AMT 1:1400 Enterprises -C,D and E. So that's pretty cool. The panel line detail is nice and crisp. Not a lot of it is present, but what is there is nicely detail, especially the windows. Clear blue parts are also included for the engines. And a really addition of 4 magnets to make the bridge section detachable from the model. Oddly this is not shown in the instructions.
The decals are crisp and clean, I hope they apply as good as they look. My kit had a bit of damage, but I think I'll be able to straighten that out when the time comes. The model is a snap fit, but the plastic is quite thick and heavy, perfect for lighting the model, but I worry that over time that if the parts weren't glued the model would slowly fall apart. It also has a very cool Galaxy Quest display base, which perfectly bring it all together.
All in all I LOVE this model, I'm so glad that I finally have this ship on my stash and I can't wait to get started on it. The only thing that could make it better is if Pegasus Hobbies released some Aztek decals. However this one will still look great once its' finished :D
A bit of damage here.
